Big Swinger

The Big Swinger (model 3000) was manufactured from between 1968 -1970 and was sold at a retail price of $24.95. It was the first ridged pack camera and was considered to be an extension of the Polaroid Swinger line (the model(s) 20, M15/ Swinger II, and the 3000).

Like the Model 20 it uses ASA 3000 B&W peel apart films and also had the "YES" photometer with the "YES" photometer two checker boards; (one illuminated by a light bulb and one by ambient light) by twisting the shutter knob the two apertures were matched and the YES became visible. Like the other Swinger models it had a fixed focus single element plastic lens, but the crudeness of the image is an aesthetic part of the swinger experience. The shutter was fixed at 1/200 and froze most action but for low light situations the Swingers had a built in flash gun for AG-1(B) bulbs (except the sentinel and swinger II which have an accessory flashgun for AG-1 bulbs). The Big Swinger introduced the "development spreader" (spreader bars) system, which would later be used in most of the early ridged pack cameras.

The only film still manufactured by Polaroid that can be used in the Big Swinger is type 667 but the discontinued 107(C) could also be used. Another film option would be Fuji ASA 3000 films. Only ASA 3000 will work in this camera; any attempt to use ASA 75 (etc.) films in this camera will result in very dark images.
