I just keep coming back and staring at this one in awe.
You're a hero indeed! :)

What a flattering comment.
Thank you charlynw.

Gee-whiz outstanding. Landmark photograph. Historical. Futuristic. Time capsule. Space capsule. Golden age. Space age. Shivers and goosebumps. Perpetually innovative and revolutionary technologies. A crisp collar.

Salute!

^
Golly - I can't tell you happy I am to know that you've stopped by for a peek at this one.

Just to the right of my Mighty Mouse sits a most beautiful invitation. Without a doubt the best I've evah seen.

Are you in the BigCity right now? Is B coming up for a visit? I seem to recall hearing(/reading) that tidbit somewhere.

Hope you're both well. Who's watching after Lomo?

Brilliant, witty and pertinent. Great SotD. Bravo!
^
Thank you Mark.

I just had a (too) quick look at your blog. It's wonderful. I'll have a more proper look when time permits - soon (it's in my blog bookmark folder now). There are some really lovely photos of places I hope to visit one day. Especially the cliffs of West Bay.

BTW - my daughter has very similar boots to the ones from the October 17 entry. I need to make a Polaroid of her wearing them - next time she's home.

Hidden radio transmitters, foot operations, secret strobes - it's a wonder you look so calm.
^
I was only calm from my nipples and up.

Now, don't you wonder what I was doing with my unseen hand?

Quite fun to do.

Hope to see you in the project soon.

I'd be most happy to participate in such a photo shoot.

The focussing and framing is tricky with a self-timer. I tend make use of any objects I can find. Sometimes, I've set up a second tripod, extended it to my real height and done things like sticking tape to the place where my arms end. Then I do the framing on that, set off the timer, run in, hurl the tripod away and take position. More often than not, I end up desperately trying to kick the upturned tripod out of the way because I didn't throw it far enough, while staying in balance and retaining the correct facial expression. The coordinated contortions and deep focus needed are similar to challenging tai chi sequences. I'm thinking of offering a video, actually. Pola-chi with Esther.

^
Perhaps g.'s friend could do our taxes after the shoot.

Yes, I've used the same 'tripod as me' trick a few times as well. Read my reply to CDR for focusing info on this particular shot. For the 8x10 I was able to just use a cable release as I was quite close to the camera. I used a radio transmitter in my hand for the strobes. The 4x5 shot was actually much trickier & required the bulb release under foot & a bit trickery with the Nikon & transmitter for the strobes.

I'll be first in line to buy your Pola-chi video. Can't wait!

Fantastic.....and a testimony to the technical ability that too many photographers no longer posses.
^
Thanks Mike.

Happy to know that you appreciate the technical difficulties involved here. I originally thought I'd be able to attach my strobes to the 8x10 lens (an ancient Turner & Reich triple convertible) but I guess the sync is not working. I'd never used the sync post before. So I ended up using a crude but effective solution. Read my reply to CDR for more techno babble.

What a great tale of how you took it. And what a great photo in a photo.

Everyone else has said everything else worth saying.

^
Thanks Dan.

I actually left out quite a few of the details as I didn't want my description to turn into a short (or long) story. I used this »link as my focus tester. She's about 3/4 of a meter tall & I positioned her head at the same height mine would be. Next I measured the distance from front of camera to her eye then I cut a stick to that length so I could get my face in focus. Even at f16 the depth of field is very shallow with 8x10. Then there was the tripping the strobe issue. And my sleeves were constantly slipping down. I could go on but you get the idea. It all worked out well in the end though.

Hope to see you in the project Sir Dan.

Brilliant! And and extra well done for managing this all on your own. This will be hard to beat. Especially for sheer mindblowing sexiness. I mean.... what could POSSIBLY be sexier than a shot of you as Edwin? (With the possible exception of g.'s real tax consultant in the exact same pose.)
^
Thanks Esther.

I know you can appreciate the difficulties of executing self portraits on you own. I though about some of yours while I was fumbling with my foot, the measuring stick I cut to get the focus close and several other things while sitting in the dark.

I must meet g.'s tax consultant some day. Perhaps you'd like to bind the two of us for some impromptu photos?

Most excellent- I LOVE this picture...!

Thanks Rhiannon. Nice to have your photo Love.

I've just had a look at the WHY! site. Very cool place & I for one don't think you sounded at all like a tosspot. What's a tosspot? ;-)

it has already been said, but... what a shock discovering that on the frontpage this morning.
you have already won.
"Orezemit, what else ?"

^
Thanks Zvevi. I feel like a winner just for being able to execute the shot. Well, and for the honpur of the frontpage today.

Hope you have time for a project shot or two.

Bravo! You resemble Oscar de la Renta a lot. This is just a great photograph and project entry. Regards....
^
Thanks Esmarelda. I just had a quick look at some Oscar pics. I see what you mean now. Bald, big ears, glasses... ; ) I'm sure his suit cost a fortune compared to my off the rack Kohl's sale special.

Stunning, and i'm saying it that like Jim Carrey in The Mask

Thanks Uri.

I can hear Jim Carrey's voice as I read your comment. I think you'd look stunning in green face paint. For the project I mean. ; )

Absolutely fantastic. Those 5 tries certainly paid off!

Thanks GA.

I was on the verge of one more attempt but in the end decided to save my precious stock of 56 for a more appealing model. ; )

jesus christ...!
it sure shows, that you did your bestest.
sir edwin orezmit.

what an inspiring project this is turning out to be. even if i did recently consider not having any heroes or role models (it was a question in a self help blaaaablabla transformation book ;) )
-> maybe the contributors to this project will turn out to be my heroes! (+ the judge! *schwitz*)

^
Thank You T.

I think this has the potential to be one of the bestest projects evah. I hope to see more each day, and maybe do one or two more myself. And who will be your hero/role model for this project?

2010-10-19 // 21:22:32
g.
well done.
i'm not an expert on the suit fashion of the last decades, but the result fits the referred time even better than the original in my opinion. the light is perfect and goes well with the sepia - a good choice on both.
it's a joy to spot the differences. and it's a joy to look for a long time at a photograph.

(on a sidenote, you resemble a lot to my tax consultant here, which gave me a good laugh.)

^
thanks gerald.

it's funny. i briefly considered a few things to make this more authentic. among them were a more vintage suit and tie, a collar clasp and a toupee. in the end i decided to use what i have on hand for this shot. i was wearing a watch though. too bad you can't see it. i enjoy the differences too.

(sidenote reply - perhaps your tax consultant also shares the decidedly obvious trait of having a very large ear, or lack of hair.) ;-)

ok. so now we donīt need to participate anymore. project winner is there. :-)
^
Thanks for the vote of confidence Arne.

I'm quite sure I'm not sexy enough for Esther's attention though. That, and I couldn't get my left hand in the frame or the glare off the print. It was fun though.

Get busy Arne, I want to see you as a star. ;)
