g.
this is your daughter, like in your recent upload, right? it's funny, because she reminds me a lot to a friend of mine from vilnius, now living in london (and i always have met her in riga). you and I have about the same age, and here's your daughter, and there's my friend, which could be, by age, my daughter as well. but i have also friends which could be my father, or mother, by age, so that's not really the point i'm stumbling about. but i begin to wonder, about how life goes differently for different persons (i don't have childs); but then, i think: isn't it exactly like this how family should be? like best friends?

your photos show a closeness that relates to it for me. of course, there's always the fact one somehow misses (taking part in) the moments due to taking the photos (i saw you writing about this elesewhere, if i remember correctly). it's certainly true. on the other hand - one keeps them, for longer than the moment and realizes them the more. appreciating, understanding.. for me, it's even that in those very moments, these moments get already intensified.
and mostly - it's largeformat which does that. for the same reason nikki once wrote you, why she likes it. isn't it funny, how a
once just matter of technique and possibilities led to a way of photography which i would still consider the best, when it comes to memory, and the way one sees? i wonder if there one day would be a bigger move back to larger formats. be it digital or not. not for the resolution. but for the physics of optics. probably we would have to pass some more years, decades even?, of lost memories, somewhere on not readable bits and bugs, on tiny snaps where everything is in focus from close to far, and still blurry, on too many pictures one does not really care about, and so, they vanish.

i got off on several tangents. i think.
like in a good summernight.

(so thank you for evoking these thoughts. and your daughter as well, of course)

thanks so much for putting so much effort into this comment.
so glad that a photograph - and mine to it! - can evoke so much on so many levels. the best compliment a photographer can get, and one of the very reasons for me to photograph at all. I find it incredible that one is able to communicate something universal through a photograph that is quite personal from the beginning. I must consider it a personal success to have achieved such a goal...

thanks so so much for sharing your feelings in such a beautiful way.

wow, congrats on the exhibitions and the book! that sounds great!
i'm still teaching english yeah (that's basically the only thing i can do!), but in a new uni, so have to prepare new lessons etc. I feel so much happier now that ive given up my phd thesis though, and the only thing i have to do is teach - a lot less stressful...
Have to turn off the computer as im starting early tomorrow, but hope to see this wonderful pic on the frontpage in the morning :)

^
sounds good! gnight mme

you're welcome, dear! that's really a stunning shot.
I'm good, thanks :) new job started a few weeks ago so im a little overworked, but i like what im doing.
and how are you?

^
oh, likewise... am working nearly full time on my regular job, making two exhibitions and a book and trying to freelance at the same time...
almost forgot, theres also the four daughters and that woman i recognize running around the house telling me to do stuff. doesn´t she understand that i have to think about myself. so hard (trying) to be an artist ;-)

but as you also said: i like what I´m doing. so why complain...

btw: what are you doing now, teaching?
