French films were not on Cocom-list :-) In the 80's our strong socialist system started to fall down, this is why large number of films and cultural product could reach the people (of course frequently with some years of delaying). I grew up on nearly the same as in everybody in Europe, and France is in the near neighborhood, we are only 2 countries apart :-)
