i clicked on "all I haven't seen yet" for you. this is 1/11. i'm actually quite embarrassed that I haven't seen them all. perhaps i did see some while not signed in. :-( i really can't remember. (votka?)

who needs that new Blue Film when results like this are possible with good old 669? i don't.

getting technical here - i quite like the range of tonality in this image. i see everything from (almost) pure black to (almost) pure white. this is Stunning. really. a true testament to the accuracy of a simple auto-exposure system and your innate talent . being so aware of the camera/film you're using to make this photo?

a bit of both i think.

what i like most is the juxtaposition of old and new. foreground and background. dark and light.

liquorice - i like that too.

edit - sorry for the double notification. i can't f'ing spell. i re-read. become embarrassed, then edit. ;-)

Sir Oré,

I am going to savor this comment for a good long time before I attempt to reply. How wonderful to receive such a note...and in an enjoyable liquorice flavor, too...thank you so much.

^

do you remember it now? i hadn't forgotten it--only have attempted to respond, never have felt i could live up to your comment, and then closed the reply box without posting...you know how it is ;)

to be a bit technical--i don't think this would have been the same in the Blue film--there's a slightness/thinness to the blues in that film--669 is more full in its range of blues, don't you think? well, i don't know for certain, since i've never tried the blue film, so i shouldn't even speak of it. i just knew that on this off- and- on rainy, overcast afternoon, 669 would catch the day as i felt it to be. the liquorice was luck. there was a man talking on his phone on one of the roofs--you can't see him here--and laundry hung out to dry, and not doing so well in the rain. and the smell from chinatown restaurants up ahead, and that smash-up of old and new, nyc style, for sure.

i'm glad you like it. most happy to have a comment like this--thank you, oré.

{hitting "post" now, trying not to give it a second-third thought}

happy to see your new views
I'm captured by your thick blurred smog
many rainy days here too
take care

it is sunny today, but rain on the horizon, i think...
joster thinks the smoke comes from people burning liquorice downstairs, so now i think i have to go inside this building and see if the furniture is made of candy canes.

nice to hear from you, l.!

you have such a eye to photograph the city.

i envy you...

it's perfect always

^

such a compliment, from someone who inspires me to try to do better all the time...
but you have not seen my shoe box (Pandora's box, really!) that holds the horrific mistakes and bad shots!
and this was a bit of luck, because i was standing on a bridge and had to push my camera through an opening in the chain link fence, and then realized that the strap, which was around my neck so that i didn't drop the camera, wasn't long enough for me to see through the viewfinder completely!!
ah well...

a chimney train taking you on a witchy tour over the roofs of the city? Funny how it seems that graffiti is forbidden on the other side of the street.

I really can't no vote NYC.
I'll never forget my first time there: feb. 1976.
Very nice shot.

oh, i wish i could have seen the city at that time, too. so many things, i imagine, that have changed...though i think that maybe these rooftops haven't changed much! thank you, bp.

I am going, and I am bringing camera Sherpas. It will be like the Amundsen expedition of 1911 to the South Pole, except this time it will be high summer and the Latvian-Italian restaurants will only be a stone's throw away.

^

oh! i am somewhat obsessed with explorers like amundsen and perry and shackelton. so, i say, better to be amundsen than perry, because otherwise you would have to eat sled dogs and not pasta.
i'm so happy! you must be over the moon with excitement!!
treat those sherpas kindly, but keep them in line, too.

(Also, I have a friend that eat ice cream with potato chips, so you're suggested peanut butter mash up doesn't impress anyone, miss!)

^

well! just for that, your name will not appear on the packaging of my new product, which i am going to call utlakspucktermassa. with an exclamation point. ! (is that name taken? )

I will never hear the end of my repetitive pasta diet!

Lakritspuck goes very well with utgångspunkter. Actually, beside me there's a whole handwritten page describing the culinary delight that is utgångspunkter. But I'm not happy with it yet. I promised a *long* letter, and I will stand by that. My plan as of now is to finish it on the ferry ride to Riga the weekend after next. Hope it's worth the wait!

^

oh my gosh! you are going back?!!! how wonderful--i didn't know!

(worth the wait--of course!!!)

I have never had Cachou, but now I will have to ask my sister to bring some home with her (she lives in Caen). BUT this pola made me go out and buy a delicious (perhaps hazardous) liquorice covered ice cream (»link). I'm writing this with my face covered in vanilla.

^

lakrits puck? really? one day, one day, i will try true swedish cuisine. because it seems most interesting and mysterious. (aside from the repetitive pasta.) liquorice covered ice cream...goes well with utgangspunkter?
i am writing this with my face covered in peanut butter. perhaps we have created a new flavor sensation!

That smoke looks hazardously tasty! Is someone burning liquorice downstairs? (You're speaking directly to my sweet-tooth here)

^

oh, well, now you did it. i have to add liquorice as a tag. that's brilliant! have you ever had Cachou? my friend from Toulouse, France, sent me some, and i could see how this smoke would taste like Cachou!!!

very blue, for sure :))

i am going back here soon, to try again, because the graffiti is so colorful, and i totally botched it!!

i think you are very inimitable in the way you capture NYC, and cityscapes in general. Just so you.
^

aww--thank you, emilie. (by that, i hope you mean very blue and somewhat clumsy!)

I want to sit up there.
^

i know, me too! there's actually a chair on one of the rooftops--you can barely see it-- but i felt like hopping off the bridge and jumping from rooftop to rooftop to get to it. fortunately, the chain link fence and the realization that i am not coordinated prevented me from attempting this.
