I had almost the same conversation, word for word, with a "security guard" at a well known shopping centre in London NW4 who saw me setting up a shot with my 600SE; I think its the size of the equipment that phases people, they just can't get their minds round the idea that it is your hobby, they are threatened somehow or think you are a professional trying to pull a fast one without going through the proper channels. I wasn't asked to leave but was told that I would have to go to the centre manager's office and obtain a permit to take photos inside the centre - I couldn't be bothered just for one shot. I asked him if he would have imposed the same requirement on someone taking a quick shot with a cellphone camera and he somehow sidestepped the issue; it wasn't worth pushing it as he didn't have the intellectual capability to enter into a discussion about the logic of his action (well, if he did, I guess he wouldn't be a two bit security guard in a noddy uniform, eh?)

damn..they do the same shit there! harrassing that is..i can't believe it..you can even shoot a fucking bridge?! when did photographers become outcasts or someone who should constantly anwer stupid questions..soooooo sick of that!
^
yeah...it was super wack. my theory though was i didn't travel halfway across the world to not take the damn picture. i just knew i had to be a little more low-pro while doing it.

but you gotta love being able to drink on the street while doing time exposures. it really helps to kill the time.
