oooooh. it looks like there is a fiery pit below. it's so mysterious. it also makes me hungry for cheese.

Fiery pit - yay. Cheese? Uargh. I'm still recovering from trying to eat a 10-inch deep-dish at Giordano's in Chicago a few weeks back which involved more cheese than I'd ever eaten in one sitting in my entire life. I might be cheese-traumatized for life :-P But fiery pit, yes! ;-)

By the way they may not be lamp cousins, maybe lamp lovers!

As far as I know my IKEA lamp hasn't had any sexual relations with any Target lamps. Or any lamps for that matter, but you never know what happens in thoses IKEA warehouses late at night :-P

Oh, and let's not anthropomorphize any lamps! That is strictly forbidden in IKEA country: »link

Absolutely hilarious!!! Except your shot looks cooler than mine! Maybe IKEA is cooler than Target and that translated in the photo! I will tell myself this to avoid inadequate feeling about my photography prowess. Maybe we should have a battle of Target vs. IKEA photos! Ha! Let the real king of cheap home furnishings be decided once and for all!

Glad you find my homage amusing, sir :-)

And I enjoy the thought of comparing choices for the same shot!

Comparing your and mine I'd give your photo clear props for color and presentation of depth of field.

I essentially copied your depth of field, approximated the angles of those three rods, threw expired film into the mix and changed the plane of the top of the lampshade to where it slants a little more - plus changed the tip of the slant to the opposite side (I wanted to get more of a feel for the elliptic shape of said top.) That last adjustment gave a better perspective on my lamp's rectangular center post, which I felt it needed. With my lower-contrast film and my lack of a red wall corner behind my lamp (had I had that, it wouldn't have turned out on this expired film anyway) the photo benefited from those choices. Initially I wanted to copy your shot with an almost grid-match-like accuracy, but then those considerations occured to me and I proceeded with what I described :-)

Oh, and I'm always up for a Polaroid battle! There's not enough of that going on here, in my opinion. I don't know about making cheap furniture the theme, though. I'm not much of a furniture photographer, I reckon ;-)

Oh! Maybe I was indoctrinated as a toddler by my Swedish mother and have been a one-person sales-sleeper-cell until just recently and now I'm fulfilling my destiny and I'm not even aware of it! Ok, now I'm spooked. Eeks!
