a.p. -this reminds me of a painting by american J. G. Brown (1831-1913) titled "Swinging on the Gate," circa 1878. the local art museum here has it in their collection. if you want to try to view an image of the painting. here is the link to a PDF file about the museum's collection: »link
the painting is on page 3 of the PDF. a classic pastime on any farm...my brothers and i did it as well.
