Oyster Planet
This is "oyster planet" - an image shot through a microscope of oysters swimming before they settle. It is the only period in their lives when they are mobile. They are very much in transition in more ways than one. Looking through the microscope these microscopic organisms swim around freely, the only time in their existence that they will ever do so.

This image is also very personal to me... My mother works in an oyster and clam farm in the hatchery section. She mostly grows algae for them to live on, and gets them to the point where they are ready to be given to watermen to grow in the bay till they are big enough to be farmed and sold.

This is my mother's first full time job. This is also what gave her freedom. Until relatively recently she has always been married to someone, living under their rules, at their beck and call. This oyster and clam farm gave her a job, and income, and allowed her to buy her own home (hence the shape of the image), get her divorce and to be finally free.

I've seen her change, or 'transition' so much in the last few years, and that is in no small part down to the oysters.
