End of an era
i have been an MJ fan ever since I can remember. When i was a kid, all the girls loved him. It wasn't weird...
Then i went away on a boat for years, missing out on all pop culture. The only thing that let me fit in no matter what country we were in was that I liked Michael Jackson. Everyone knew who he was. It connected me to the rest of the world.
I oly had a couple of cassette tapes and Michael accounted for 90% of them, I listened over and over... I was an only child, and most of the time at sea, one of my parents was asleep while the other was on watch- so it was lonely for five weeks stints while in the middle of the atlantic, etc. Michael was my friend.
With so much emptiness around, vast expanses of sea and nothing else, MJ kept me company.
When i moved to England I joined a fanclub, collected merchandise. I never fitted in in school because I had no idea about current pop culture and had such a different, more adult, life - but MJ - he was mine.
This year, my dream wold come true - too see him live, in the flesh. But it was never to come true.
TBC when I have another half hour!
