The meat auction at Stormy Downs
In Wales a very strange thing happens...there is a car boot sale called Stormy Downs that sits on a disused airfield. As a kid I used to do car boot sales with my gran for Maesteg Hospital and last weekend I went to one...
What I find the most surreal about this place is the meat auction. In a butcher van, men cutting and chopping meat gather. Around them is a crown of people. This woman pictures is the go between who dishes the meat out and collects money from the auction winners.
A man on the van shouts things like "£90 of steak for a fiver, come on £90 of steak for a fiver, gorgeous tender meat"...and then someone puts their arm up and this woman scurries over...
Where does this meat come from? who in their right mind would buy meat in this way at a car boot sale... so many questions so little time. If you go to wales, I think this should be listed as a top attraction!
