Liberty Tree
The Liberty Tree. I think the original, or that often thought of as the Liberty Tree, is in Pennsylvania. Regardless, just the sight of a tree with a sign on it proclaiming it as the Liberty Tree makes me stop to think about the cost of liberty. It makes me stop to think about places in the world where Liberty isn't even an option. I am grateful to live where I do.

I am supposing that this tree has been dated, by whatever method, back to Revolutionary War days. It is located next to Salem United Church of Christ just outside of California, Mo. That is the church cemetery just behind the church. The congregation is small, now. But, the church is considered the "Mother Church" for our local U.C.C. as the church in town came later. Salem Church hosts an annual Ice Cream Social that is well attended and serves the best ice cream in the county. Ah! The joys of living in small towns.
