Ready to remember that 40 years ago
...we had our first date on March 4, 1967. It was a blind date set up by a mutual friend and fellow music major. The girl was also one of Nancy's apartment mates. We walked to the Esquire Theater there in Cape Girardeau and saw the movie "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum." I was trying to behave, but when the Orgy scene came on and someone flipped an olive into one of the slave girl's cleavage, I laughed hard and outloud. When I looked at my date and saw that she was laughing, too, I relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the evening. After the movie we walked a short distance to an ice cream store called Martha Washington's. When I got home my father asked me if I had a good time and my mother said, "Can't you tell? He's smiling."
On this day in 2007, we had had a very busy day with church, a church cabinet meeting, and attendance at a school function before we could call the rest of the day our own. We drove to Jefferson City to see a movie followed by dinner at Ruby Tuesday's. While enjoying our dinner we talked about the years that had passed and the people we've known. We reminisced about that first date, too. I am a lucky man!
