Ok this is not my idea or my project, but it sounds fucking sweet so check it out.

"This summer we are building rafts and floating down the Mississippi River.
The catch is that we don’t know much about boats or rivers, and we don’t have any money. We know we are blowing crazy hot air, but if the idea makes your eyes glow like coals then you understand what we’re envisioning. For the last two months we’ve been meeting, making phone calls, holding benefits and drawing blueprints. We’ve been collecting scrap wood from all over the city and hammering it together piece by piece. We’ve been having benefit parties and socking away brown rice and dented cans. Soon we’ll be testing vessels in the Gowanus Canal or the East River. We’re organizing mostly out of New York because that’s where we live, but we have folks on the West coast as well as the Midwest.

Here’s the plan: We meet in Minneapolis in late July with sections of our raft in tow. We piece together our pontoons and fill them with salvaged blocks of foam. We make it beautiful and tie on anything that floats, adding it to our junk armada, our anarchist county fair, our fools ark. Our precious cargo is everything we hold dear: pieces and parts of the culture we are already creating. Our zines and puppets, sewing projects and poster campaigns. Mutant bicycles and punk rock marching bands. Plus our thoughts and dreams and irrepressible energy.

Together we float down the Mississippi river, as far as we can—all the way to St. Louis—anchoring here and there to perform, give workshops, and create the big huge stinking spectacle we wished would have stopped in our hometowns. And at each place we invite anyone to contribute performances or workshops of their own.

Our flotilla is built green with precycled materials, rainwater collection, solar ovens, and steam calliopes. If we make it right everything will run on sunshine and french fry grease. We want a floating garden, a bicycle-powered sound system, and wind-powered lights. We want to steal hippie technology from the hippies.

We are a small group of people with extensive experience making big insane projects. In the past we have taken 20-person bands to Mexico, pulled off town square-sized guerrilla theater in Berlin, and fed hundreds of people with garbage and love. We know this idea is ridiculous and impossible. That’s why we’re obsessed with it."

NEW SHOT OF THE DAY SYSTEM ONLINE NOW
(first new SOTD election tonight at 1:23 cet)

incredible but true. the amazing webmeister did it. he calculated an absolut waterproof system that incooperates all your proposals and inputs (thank you for caring and sharing), the history of democracy and voting systems back to the ice age and the obvious advantages of splendid dictatorships.
this system, still deeply democratic and still based on YOUR VOTES, guarentees everything that anybody did never even ever dreamed of and most important it is 100% prohibits misuse and will directly zoom the very best polaroids on the cover of polanoid.net, no matter if they were taken by an established community guru or a complete unknown polanoid rockie.
this new system is only the first part of a complete new strategy for presenting and managing content on this site, we are planning to establish step by step during the very next weeks (please also have a look at the new "show all pix I haven't seen yet" link in the picture section, also part of this new structure)
unfortunately the university of Yale heard about the new webmeister voting system and invited him for some guest lectures with the titel "improving the voting system in presidents elections" so he will not be online the next two weeks to accept your congratulations personally. so all you can do at the moment is to concentrate in VOTING, VOTING, VOTING and in uploading your very very best polaroids and become our next SHOT OF DAY THE winner, earning endless faith, tasty glory and a 10 EUR coupon for unsaleable.com.
********************

ps: just before taking off to Yale, webmeister asked me to send you his true apologizes for being that lazy in answering all your mails. please give the dude some more time, he will come back to you asap.

Anyways, been a bit thin on the upload front as miss Goldenbogen has insitantly - yet delicat - pointed out to me, so here we go, or soon we'll go anyways. Got back from the cabin where I spent the weekend doing absolutley bothing except eating, drinking and breathing some fresh country air. Well, uploads are coing. Hang in there gang. End communication.

from Geoff Dyer's "The Ongoing Moment": "In 1969 Walker Evans made his famous statement that 'Colour tends to corrupt photography and absolute colour corrupts absolutely ... There are four simple words for the matter which must be whispered: colour photography is vulgar.' Within a few years Evans had acquired a Polaroid camera and would spend the rest of his life exploring its creative potential with unfettered relish. 'Paradox is a habit of mine,' he said. 'Now I am going to devote myself with great care to my work in colour."

Later Dyer quotes Evans again and looks more closely at these polaroids he took in the last 14 months of his life: " 'It's as though there's a wonderful secret in a certain place and I can capture it,' he said. 'Only I, at this moment, can capture it, and only this moment and only me.' Consistent with this, these pictures, so nearly anonymous, are intensely suggestive of the photographer's interior life. It is as if there is no distinction whatever between a room's sense of itself and Evan's sense of himself. He had become his subjects."

Dyer goes on: "Evans took these pictures and watched the world change, in his hands, to something unknowably strange [Pl.10]. The weird colour saturation had an immediately oneiric quality. Walls became insubstantial. The sky became turquoise as De Chirico's. These were colours that emptied the world, made it seem like a dream - not a human dream, but the dream a room or road might have of itself. In the late 1950s he had taken photos from the window of a moving train. Now he took photos of a signal box and station when the train had gone by, when the only sign of its having passed was the little box of flowers, nodding in its wake. Time, like the rain, has moved on elsewhere. The documentary has become inseparable from the lyrical."

just liked these words and thought i'd pass them on...

(his newest image - go and vote :-))

One of my closest friends and inspirations on Polanoid.net. I am thankful to have met him and his family through this internt platform which connects and binds each of our souls so well. The images connect, the words connect and build a whole new unity in the net.

i-nan kuo is special. His works create moments which give two seemingly contradictive expressions immediately at first sight, simultaneously. This is so surreally dreamlike / this is everyday life, everyday love.

I guess that's what fascinates me the most about his work, this particular contradiction. His beautiful and shy but confident wife he shows rarely, but if he does, then we feel like he caught the essence of her in that very moment. His son seems to be right out of those - to us western populations - exotic fairytale myth movies we see lately and can experience from the 60s on. He seems like a mythical little creature, epitomizing shyness, freedom, curiousity as well as "innocence", which is indeed an overuesd term but here suits the subject, as the word rarely does.

But that is only one part of his work and I do not want to "reduce" his images to that field, as he is very experimental, also in combining images and testing various ways of exposure, and the content also keeps treasures of roots, history and culture.

Thanks for reading.)

"she is the whispers in my head… she is the echo that never ends… she is my imagination… she is my inspiration… she is my motivation … she is the choices i make… she is my bedtime and she is my insomnia… she is my puffy eyes… she is my will to power… she is my desire… she is my self-control… she is the dream i never wake from… she is the song i’m always singing… she is the poem i’m always writing… she is the star of my life-movie… she is the book under my pillow… she is my half-light… she is the blue glow silhouette on my wall… she is the red shadow clouds in my heart… she is my ticket out of the city… she is the small town dream i forgot i had… she is the reason i’ve learned everything i know… she is the heartbreak source of my aspirations… she is the change of seasons… she is the imaginary friend of my childhood boredom… she is my deathbed memory… she is the dignity of no regrets… she is all of these things, yet she is none of these things… she is not…

she will be the missed train… she will be the aching in my heart long after she’s forgotten me… she will be the sun that never rises… she will be the clouds that hide the stars… she will be the love that won’t let me go… she will be my quiet tears… she will be the ghost that haunts my room… she will be the spots in my closed eyes… she will be the song that rings in my ears… she will be my slow decay… she will be my inevitable loss of hope… she will be my destiny of unfulfilled potential… she will be my functional depression… she will be the bottom of my glass… she will be the empty chair… she will be the last thought… she will be the last word… she will be…"
